I'm walking to a meeting with a customer and realized that the carnitas burrito with onions that I had for lunch was still coming out of my nostrils. Lovely visual and I'm sure you can smell it.

What to do? well, if brushing my teeth wasn't an option, I'd quickly drop into Walgreens and grab some mints and move on to the meeting.

In the world of virtual and online meetings, what we look like takes a back seat to what we sound like. Unfortunately, many of us are oblivious to how bad we sound and the impacts that can have on the people we are communicating with.

How often have you set up a conference call and as soon as the other person speaks, you look at all your colleagues with a facial expression that says "Can you understand that?"

Setting aside being on time and ready to go, the squeaks, pops, echo, reverb can really be annoying and put your pitch on the back foot.

So what to do? Get your kit setup properly. Use dynamic microphones, but more importantly - test!

When you go to a concert, they spend more time doing sound checks than the actual concert. There's a reason.

Take the time to test your setup. Call someone, record what you sound like and be confident with your setup and equipment. When you go to a concert, they spend more time doing sound checks than the actual concert. There's a reason. How much time have you spent getting your sound setup? Maybe 30 seconds before the meeting? or worse... 5 minutes into the meeting?

You don't want to be that person!

Our mindset on this is to continually improve, there's lots of technology out there and we're trying to improve the way we communicate.

Don't be that person! Check out the blog now.
